In a Press Release dated 26th September 2022, Christie’s Auction House announced the presentation of the largest pear-shaped fancy vivid pink diamonnd ever to be offered at a live auction, at the Geneva Magnificent Jewels Sale, coming up on November 8, 2022. The 18.18-carat pear-shaped fancy vivid pink diamond, christened the Fortune Pink, with an estimate of USD 25 – 35 million, is expected to lead the Geneva Magnificent Jewels Sale, on 8th November 2022, as part of Christie’s Luxury Week. The rare diamond with an auspicious weight of 18.18 carats, which literally translates to definite prosperity according to Asian beliefs, is expected to garner special interest from collectors across the Globe.
Commenting on the sale of this rare diamond, Rahul Kadakia, Christie’s International Head of Jewellery said, “After The Rock, a 228 carat diamond sold this May in Geneva, Christie’s is proud to present The Fortune Pink, the largest pear-shaped fancy vivid pink diamond offered for sale at auction. With its auspicious weight of 18.18 carats this exceptional pink diamond of phenomenal colour will certainly bring good fortune to its new owner.”
According to Christie’s the largest fancy vivid pink diamond sold to-date at Christie’s was the 18.96-carat, cut-cornered rectangular-cut Winston Pink Legacy, sold at a Geneva Magnificent Jewels auction held in November 2018, which achieved USD 50,375,000 setting a world record price-per-carat for a pink diamond of USD 2,650,000.
Another fancy vivid pink diamond that did quite well at a Christie’s Hong Kong Magnificient Jewels auction held in November 2017, was the 14.93-carat, fancy vivid pink, oval-shaped Pink Promise Diamond which sold for USD 32,163,932, working out to a price-per-carat value of USD 2,150,000.
The Sakura Diamond, a fancy vivid purple-pink, cushion mixed-cut diamond weighing 15.81 carats, sold for USD 29,285,318 at a Christie’s magnificent Jewels Auction in Hong Kong held in May 2021, working out to a price-per-carat valuie of USD 1,852,329.
Christie’s Auction house has announced that the Fortune Pink Diamond will be displayed for the first time at Christie’s New York beginning with the week starting on Monday October 3 rd, 2022, before touring Shanghai, Taiwan and Singapore. The rare diamond will then be put on display to the public, during Christie’s Luxury Week at the Four Seasons Hotel des Bergues, Geneva, from 2 to 8 November, 2022.
