The ‘Sri Lanka Pavilion’ at the Jewellery Shanghai Show 2010 was organized by the National Gem and Jewellery Authority (NGJA), the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association (SLGJA) and the commercial section of the Sri Lanka Embassy in Beijing.
The show was held from the 9th to the 12th of April 2010. The is the second time time the ‘Sri Lanka Pavilion’ was at the Jewellery Shanghai Show. The ‘Sri Lanka Pavilion’ was held for the first time in 2009. Over 30 Sri Lankan Gem and Jewellery trading companies participated at the show.
The exhibition was organized by the Gem and Jewellery Traders Association of China and the National Gem and Jewellery Technology Administrative Center. About 400 exhibitors from over 20 countries participated at the show this year. The exhibition center had over 23,000 sq meters of space where exhibitors could display their products. Some of the countries that participated include Switzerland, Korea, Taiwan, Thailand and Sri Lanka.
The Sri Lanka Pavilion was ceremonially opened on the 9th of April 2010.His Excellency Mr. Karunatilake Amunugama, the Sri Lankan Ambassador to China at Beijing was the guest of honour. In his speech he stated that “National Gem and Jewellery Authority and Sri Lanka Gem & Jewellery Association intend to work closely with the Gem & Jewellery Traders Association of China to build up a strong Platform for the Gem and Jewellery trading community in Sri Lanka.” He also noted that the close ties between the Sri Lankan and Chinese government will help them to increase business activities in China.
On display at the fair was a wide range of high end jewelry such as gold jewelry, silver jewelry, diamond jewelry, gem set jewelry. Packaging and display materials for the gem and jewellery industry were also on display.
