Sotheby’s Geneva Magnificent Jewels and Noble Jewels May 10, 2022, live auction featuring a total of 200 lots consisting of iconic designs from the world’s most prestigious jewellery houses, such as Van Cleef & Arpels, Cartier, Bulgari, Oscar Heyman & Bros, Jar and others and also featuring beautiful colored diamond lots, exceptional coloured stone lots and magnificent jewels from the early 19th ccentury to the present day, realized a sale total of US$ 36.4 million, selling 146 out of 200 lots on offer at the auction, which is around 73% of the total lots.
Top Lot of the sale was Lot 393 – Rare and Magnificent Fancy Intense Purple-pink diamond ring – selling within the estimate of CHF 4,190,000 – 6,000,000 for CHF 5,609,900 equivalent to USD 5.6 million.
Ring Size 50, 18k white gold ring is set with a cut-cornered rectangular modified brilliant-cut, fancy intense purple-pnk, VVS2-clarity diamond weighing 7.17 carats, framed by brilliant-cut diamonds on the shoulders and upper hoop of the ring. The accenting diamonds weighing 0.58 carats are approximately F-G color and VS clarity.
GIA report no. 2173198527 accompanying the lot states that the centre diamond is Fancy Intense Purple-Pink, Natural Colour, VVS2 Clarity. Diamond Type Classification Letter also accompanying the lot states that the diamond has been determined to be Type IIa.
The second top lot of the sale was Lot 356 – Rare and Exceptional faint pink type IIa diamond ring – which also sold wiithin the estimate of CHF 930,000 – 1,400,000 for CHF 1,134,000 equivalent to USD 1.1 million.
Ring Size 50, platinum ring, is claw-set with a cushion brilliant-cut, faint pink diamond weighing 12.39 carats, flanked by tapered baguette-cut diamonds on the shoulders of the ring.
GIA report no. 2223179368 accompanying the lot, states that the cushion brilliant-cut diamond weighing 12.39 carats and measuring 15.94 x 13.03 x 8.01 mm, is Faint Pink, Natural Colour and VVS1 Clarity. A working diagram accompanying the report states that the diamond may be internally flawless after minor repolishing. A Type IIa diamond classification letter also accopanies the report.
Lot 382 – Superb diamond ring | Schroeder, with an estimate of CHF 885,000 -1,400,000 was the next highlight of the sale. The lot sold within the estimate for CHF 1,115,100 equivalent to USD 1.1 million.
Ring size 51, 18k white gold ring, signed Schroeder is set with a pear-shaped, D-color, VS-1 clarity diiamond, weighing 15.66 carats, the mount and prongs enhanced with brilliant-cut diamonds.
GIA report no. 2221179365 states that the pear brilliant-cut diamond weighing 15.66 carats, measuring 21.70 x 14.38 x 8.98 mm, is D-Colour and VS1 Clarity. Total weight of accenting diamonds approximately 3.00 carats, on average G-I colour and VS clarity, as gauged and graded in the mount.
The next highlight of the sale is Lot 345 – An Attractive Diamond Ring with a pre-sale estimate of CHF 540,000 – 610,000, that sold slightly above the upper estimate for CHF 630,000 equivalent to USD 630,189.
Ring Size 51, Platinum Ring is claw-set with an Oval brilliant-cut, E-color, VS-1 clarity diamond, weighing 11.11 carats, flanked by tapered baguette-cut diamonds on the shoulders of the ring.
GIA report no. 2185909299 accompanying the lot, states that the oval-cut diamond weighing 11.11 carats, with dimensions of 19.12 x 12.20 x 7.35 mm, is E-Colour and VS1 Clarity.
A Colored Gemstone Lot by Harry Winston is the next highlight of the sale, bearing Lot No 383 and titled Harry Winston – Attractive sapphire and diamond ring, with an estimate of CHF 500,000 – 800,000. The lot sold within the estimate for CHF 630,00 equivalent to USD 630,189.
Ring size 57, Platinum ring is double-claw set with a cut-cornered step-cut Burma blue sapphire, weighing 39.12 carats, highlighted by a pear-shaped colorless diamond surround.
SSEF report no. 121028, states that the step-cut sapphire weighing 39.12 carats, measuring 17.41 x 15.30 x 13.41 mm, is of Burmese origin, with no indications of heating. Total weight of diamonds approximately 6.00 – 7.00 carats, on average G-H colour, VS clarity, as gauged and graded in the mount.
Lot 385 – Impressive fancy yellow diamond pendant, with an estimate of CHF 470,000 – 745,000 is another highlight of the sale. The lot sold above the upper estimate for CHF 1,260,000 equivalent to USD 1.26 million.
The white metal pendant, the property of a Lady, is claw-set with an old mine brilliant-cut fancy yellow diamond weighing 51.15 carats. GIA report no. 6203517746, states that the old mine brilliant-cut diamond, weighing 51.15 carats, measuring 23.25 x 23.19 x 13.61mm, is Fancy Yellow, Natural Colour, SI-1 Clarity.
The next highlight of the sale is a signed lot by Oscar Heyman & Bros bearing Lot No. 400 and titled Oscar Heyman & Brothers – An extraordinary gem set and diamond bracelet, “Birds in Flight” – Oscar Heyman & Brothers, circa 1927, with an estimate of CHF 470,000 – 745,000. The Lot sold above the upper estimate for CHF 1,441,500 equivalent to USD 1.44 million.
The articulated bracelet of length 18.5 cm is of exotic inspiration, decorated with tropical birds in flight amidst floral sprigs, pierced and millegrain-set with buff top rubies, emeralds, sapphires, and onyx as well as circular-cut diamonds.
Lot 380 is another signed lot by Van Cleef & Arpels, titled Important Diamond Ring with an estimate of CHF 400,000 – 600,000. The lot sold above the upper estimate for CHF 756,000 equivalent to USD 753,427.
Ring size 50 platinum ring, Signed Van Cleef & Arpels and numbered 8955CS, is set with a cut-cornered step-cut, D-color, VVS-1 clarity diamond, weighing 11.26 carats, flanked by tapered baguette-cut colorless diamonds on the shoulders of the ring.
GIA report no. 6224378306, states that the step-cut diamond, weighing 11.26 carats, measuring 16.11 x 11.60 x 6.83 mm, is D Colour and VVS1 Clarity. Also accompanied by a Type IIa classification letter.
Another highlight of the sale is a Jadeite Lot, bearing Lot No. 353 and titled Superb and Rare Imperial Green Jadeite Ring, with an estimate of CHF 400,000 – 600,000 and selling between the estimate for CHF 491,400 equivalent to USD 490,600.
Ring size 51, 18k white gold ring is claw-set with a highly translucent oval jadeite double-cabochon weighing 24.86 carats, of bright emerald green colour.
SSEF report no. 120878, states that the cabochon jadeite, weighing 24.86 carats, measuring 20.75 x 17.50 x 9.08 mm, is of Burmese origin, with no indications of impregnation, and may be called “jadeite-jade (Fei Cui) type A” in the trade and the colour may also be called “Imperial Green” in the trade.
