Lambertville, NJ: Rago Arts and Auction Center’s Great Estates Auction on March 17-18 saw the sale of $960,838 in property. Property made by Mintons sold exceptionally well, including a run of five very fine pâte-sur-pâte plaques by Louis Solon, which sold for a total of $67,500 against a combined estimate of $15,000-25,000. Objects from Tiffany & Co. also performed admirably, with lot 1462, an 18K gold dresser set once owned by Andy Warhol, and lot 1471, an English King sterling silver flatware set, selling for $21,250 and $13,750, respectively. Sale prices for silver were strong throughout, with both lot 1316, a Victorian silver two-light candelabra, and lot 1707, a sterling silver swan centerpiece by Buccellati, selling for $6,875.
Other noteworthy lots include: lot 1344, a marble sculpture of Cupid and Psyche which sold for $18,750 against an estimate of $700-1,000; lot 1043, a pair of Chinese cloisonné elephants which sold for $11,250; and lot 1544, a mother of pearl inlaid cabinet by Gabriel Viardot which sold for $10,625.
