The 5th annual business awards of the Sri Lanka- Malaysia Business Council was held on the 11th August 2009 at the Hilton Colombo.
Top dignitaries present during the award ceremony include Prof. G. L. Peiris, Minister of Export Development & International Trade,Mr Rosli Ismail, the Malaysian High Commissioner in Sri Lanka, Dr. Anura Ekanayake, the Chairman Ceylon Chamber of Commerce and Guest of Honour/entrepreneur of the year 2007/8.
The main aim of the award was to recognize the contribution and honour the members and non-members that have contributed to the growth of Sri Lanka’s economy. Senior officials from the government and the private sector were among the panel of judges.
Silver, Bronze and Gold awards were presented to each of the 11 categories. According to the Daily Mirror, the Bronze Awards were won by Bairaha Farms PLC, AB Mauri Lanka (Pvt) Ltd and NMK Products & Agencies Lanka (Pvt) Ltd jointly shared the Bronze award in the Importers / Distributors / Retailers of Finished Products.
In the Manufacturers and Exporters of Gem and Jewellery category, silver awards was presented to Sena Gem House Trading (Pvt) Ltd. The Gold award in the Manufacturers and Exporters of Gem and Jewellery category was presented to Nemlanka Jewellers.
