J. C. Penny Appoints New Senior Vice President

J.C Penny Inc has appointed Pam Mortensen as their senior vice president and general merchandise manager of fine jewelry. The appointment is effective from July 27th. She is a former vice president and divisional merchandise manager of fine jewellery and watches for Wal-Mart Stores Inc. The appointment was made public by a press release on Thursday by the Plano Texas-based retailer.

Pam Mortensen’s experience also includes 12 years of work as a senior buyer at Bailey, Banks and Biddle for bridal, fashion jewelry and watches. She holds a bachelor’s degree from the University of Arkansas.

Mortensen will be replacing Beryl Raff who left J.C. Penny in April to head Helzberg Diamonds. She has been working at Wal-Mart since 2002 and decided to leave the company when they shifted their jewelry operations from Arkansas to New York.

According to the press release Mortensen said “J.C. Penney has long been known as a leader in fine-jewelry retailing for Middle America, based on the great appeal of its selection and the value it offers,” she said in the release. “It is a wonderful opportunity for me to help build on the success of the Jewelry Store inside J.C. Penney today and to further build its market share when the environment improves.”

Myron E. (Mike) Ullman, the Chief Executive Officer and Chairman of J. C. Penney said” he shares our dedication to offering an assortment that reflects style and quality at prices that make sense for our customers’ budgets. We are delighted to welcome her to our team and look forward to benefiting from her expertise and leadership,”
