GIA- New Member of the Responsible Jewelry Council

The Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) has joined the membership of the Responsible Jewelry Council (RJC), according to a press release by the RJC. The GIA is the worlds leading authority on colored stones, diamonds and pearls.

The RJC is a non-profit organization with over 100 member companies from diamond and jewelry sectors around the world. The main aim of RJC is to reinforce consumer confidence in the jewellery industry by encouraging the use of responsible business practices for those involved in the diamond and gold jewellery supply chain.The RJC members must be committed to ethical, social, human rights and environmental practices in an accountable and transparent manner from the mine to the retail store.

The Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of RJC, Mr Michael Rae has welcomed this move by the GIA. According to Mr Rae, the GIA is the worlds leading gemmological institute and lab which is used as a benchmark to grade other labs. “We can now offer the GIA the opportunity to certify its business practices against the RJC system” he said.

Membership opportunity with the RJC is open to all associations and businesses in the diamond and jewelry supply chain.

The Gemmological Institute of America (GIA) is also a non-profit institute with headquarters at Carlsbad, California. Established in 1931 GIA’s main aim is to build public trust by integrating science, professionalism,  education, academics, research and laboratory services.
