DIAMONDS, ART AND ANTIQUITIES DRIVE RAGO’S JEWELRY AND REMIX AUCTIONS, JUNE 9-11

Lambertville, NJ: Rago Arts and Auction Center’s June Jewelry and Remix Auctions brought $1,874,413 in sales over the weekend of June 9-11, 2017. The David Taylor Collection of Georg Jensen Jewelry – a masterfully curated collection of rare and early examples of Georg Jensen jewelry, including exceptionally rare works in gold, amassed by the world’s preeminent Jensen scholar – hammered in at 7% above the high estimate with a sell-through rate of 96%. The following day’s Remix: Effortless Style Auction saw several works of art and design defy their estimates, including Lot 1181, an untitled painting of a mother and child by Vietnamese artist Vu Cao Dam which sold for $10,625 against an estimate of $5,000-7,000. Diamonds dominated in Sunday’s Fine + Antique Jewelry Auction, including Lot 2459, a 7.19 carat RBC diamond and platinum engagement ring which sold for $87,500 against an estimate of $55,000-75,000 – the highest price achieved by a single lot in the three-day auction series.

Also of note: Lot 2224, an enameled yellow gold, diamond and ruby frog bracelet by David Webb which sold for $37,500 against an estimate of $18,000-24,000; Lot 2320, a Tiffany & Co. Art Deco sapphire, diamond and platinum strap bracelet which sold for $26,250; Lot 1181, James Bohary’s 1981 oil painting Wired Off Gardners’ Island which sold for $10,625 against an estimate of $3,000-5,000; and Lot 2117, a gentleman’s Patek Philippe exhibition back yellow gold watch which sold for $10,625 against an estimate of $4,000-6,000.
