WORLD’S LARGEST JEWELLERY MARKET PLACE OPENS IN HONG KONG ON 27TH FEBRUARY, 2018

The 5th Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show and the 35th Hong Kong International Jewellery Show organized by The Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and held under the concept of “2 shows 2 venues” for the 5th year, will be held between 27th February 2018 and 5th March 2018. The show that opens first on 27th February 2018 will be the 5th Hong Kong International Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show to be held at the AsiaWorld-Expo (AWE) from 27th February 2018 to 3rd March, 2018. The twin show, the 35th Hong Kong International Jewellery Show, held at the second venue, the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre (HKCEC), will be opened on the 1st March 2018 and shall continue until 5th March 2018. Thus, the two shows will run parallely for three days from 1st March 2018 to 3rd March 2018, and to facilitate movement between the two venues, courtesy shuttle services will be provided between HKCEC and AWE to maximize convenience for buyers and visitors, who wish to visit both venues.

The twin shows in 2017 featured about 4,480 exhibitors, and attracted over 85,000 buyers from 144 countries and regions, which was an increase of six per cent over the previous year 2016. More than 33,000 buyers visited the Diamond, Gem & Pearl Show, while some 52,000 buyers attended the Jewellery Show. This year too organizers of the shows anticipate a total of more than 4,480 exhibitors from over 50 countries and regions and a further increase in the numbers of exhibitors and visitors over the previous year. Members of leading industry associations from around the world are expected to showcase their wide range of exquisite jewellery and gemstones in respective group pavilions. Among the countries and regions that are expected to participate are Australia, Belgium, Brazil, the Chinese mainland, Colombia, France, Germany, India, Israel, Italy, Japan, Korea, Myanmar, Peru, Spain, Sri Lanka, Taiwan, Thailand, Turkey and the United States.

The twin shows will deliver an all-round programme of events, that include jewellery parades, seminars, buyer forums and networking events, that bring trending market intelligence to industry players, among which TRENDVISION Jewellery + Forecasting will give a seminar on the latest jewellery trends. On the first evening of the Jewellery Show (1st March, 2018), a cocktail reception and spectacular gala dinner will be hosted for industry professionals to expand business networks over fine food and wine.

The 19th edition of the Hong Kong Jewellery Design Competition, themed “The Vibrant Hong Kong”, organized with the objective of honouring local designs of superior craftsmanship and creativity and held in two groups – the Open Group and the Student Group, will be worked out in the weeks before the show. All entries for this competition will be evaluated on (1) creativity and innovation, (2) aesthetics, craftsmanship and wearability and (3) relevance to the theme. The Open Group entries will also be judged on a fourth criterion – marketability. . The competition will be judged by an eminent panel of judges involved in the industry in various capacities such as Managing Directors, Directors and CEOs of renowned jewellery manufacturing companies, Chairman of the Design Council of Hong Kong, Professor Eric Yim, JP and celebrity model Eunis Chan. The results of the competition will be announced in February 2018, and winning entries will be showcased during the Jewellery Show
