Yoram Dvash, President of the Israeli Diamond Exchange has been elected as acting president of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses, based in Antwerp, following the decision of Ernie Blom, head of the WFDB since 2012, to step down temporarily for medical, family and personal reasons.
Mr. Yoram Dvash was elected as acting president by WFDBs Executive Committee at a Zoom meeting held on Sunday, April 19, 2020. Mr. Dvash had previously been named president designate at a WFDB Congress.
Earnest Blom Diamonds based in Johannesburg, South Africa, is a renowned fourth-generation diamantaire trading in rough and polished diamonds, both in the local and international diamond trade. The Antwerp-based WFDB headed by Earnest Blom, since 2012, groups together 30 worldwide diamond bourses.
Mr. Yoram Dvash, successor to Earnest Blom, established Israel-based Dvash Diamonds in 1991 and is the president of the Israel Diamond Exchange, elected since 2015.
Issuing an official statement after his election, Mr. Yoram Dvash said, “The diamond industry like all other industries is going through a very difficult time due to the coronavirus pandemic that has struck so much devastation in human, as well as business terms, across the world, In this situation it is imperative that the diamond industry across the world be united in the goal to restore it to its glory days, once the pandemic has receded and some semblance of normalcy returns to the globe.”
