ALROSA, the leader of the world diamond mining industry, in a Press Release dated December 26, 2017 has announced that it is planning to hold 30 international auctions for the sale of its special size natural rough diamonds over 10.8 carats in weight. Apart from Moscow and Vladivostok in Russia, auctions will also be held in the largest international diamond trading centers around the world, where ALROSA operates sales offices, such as New York, Antwerp, Dubai, Israel and Hong Kong.
The auctions will be held throughout the four quarters of the year, with five auctions earmarked for the first-quarter; ten for the second-quarter; six for the third-quarter and nine for the fourth-quarter.
Moscow will host the largest number of auctions, eleven, while the Company plans to hold two auctions in Vladivostok, one in April and the other in September. Two more auctions are slated for May and October, to be held in ALROSA’s trade office in New York, that is due to resume full-scale operations early in 2018. Other auctions planned for the international diamond trading centers, include two for Antwerp, Belgium; four for Dubai in the UAE; six for Ramat Gan in Israel and three for Hong Kong.
Commenting on Alrosa’s schedule for international auctions in 2018, Yevgeny Agureev, Director of the United Selling Organization of ALROSA, said, “Russian laws stipulate that special size rough diamonds over 10.8 carats can be sold only at auctions. Such diamonds are traditionally in high demand both on Russian and international markets – as a rule, 60 to 100 companies from different countries take part in auctions for their sale” Continuing further, the Director said, “Preliminary figures indicate that in 2017 the Company sold 153 thousand carats worth almost USD 365 million at international auctions for special size rough diamonds.”
