WDCs 13th AGM TO BE HELD IN DUBAI FROM OCTOBER 15-17, 2017

In a press release dated July 25, 2017, the New York based World Diamond Council (WDC), an organization including all stakeholders in the diamond industry, and committed to preventing conflict diamonds from entering the legitimate global diamond supply chain and protecting the value of natural diamonds, announced that it will be holding its 13th Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Dubai, the United Arab Emirates, from October 15-17, 2017. This is the second time WDC is holding its AGM in Dubai, after the 3rd AGM held 13 years ago in March 2004. The 13th AGM will be hosted by the Dubai Multi Commodities Centre (DMCC). Top among the agenda at this AGM are industry recommendations for the Kimberley Process Certification Scheme (KPCS) review cycle and a proposed renewal of the WDC System of Warranties.

Commenting on the holding of the 13th AGM in Dubai, Stephane Fischler, acting President of the WDC said,“The WDC is going forward with its Strategic Plan aimed at enhancing the KPCS and encouraging diamond industry self-regulation to increase supply chain transparency. I am confident that our collaborative efforts will contribute to the further development of diamond industry integrity and strengthen consumer confidence in the diamond value chain.”

The three-day program begins on October 15, 2017, with the WDC Board of Directors Meeting. The opening session of the 13th AGM will be held on the second day, October 16, 2017 and the keynote address will be delivered by Mr. Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of the DMCC. A Welcome Gala Dinner has also been arranged for all the delegates attending the Dubai Diamond Conference.

Commenting on the holding of the World Diamond Council’s 13th AGM in Dubai, Mr. Ahmed Bin Sulayem, Executive Chairman of the DMCC, said, “This is the second time that the WDC is hosting their Annual General Meeting in Dubai, one of the world’s leading market places for rough diamonds.The DMCC is delighted to see representatives of diamond bourses, banks, and diamond miners gather in an Arab country once again to discuss and tackle important topics, from supply chain integrity, to consumer confidence and demand.
