Sri Lanka’s International Trade Exhibition FACETS Sri Lanka comes alive this September

“Facets Sri Lanka” , the islands only international trade exhibition will be held at the BMICH in Colombo during 6th-9th September 2008 for the 18th consecutive year with the participation of hundreds of international and local representatives.

‘Facets Sri Lanka’ exhibition is the most important industry event which atracts numerous buyers and sellers from across the globe , “said Mr Chanaka Ellawala, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association.

The exports of gems, jewellery and semi-precious stones have escalated at a faster pace since the commencement of this show. Industry exports recorded $364 million in 2005 and $471 million in 2007.

‘FACETS Sri Lanka 2008 ‘ will be held at the BMICH Exhibition and Convention Center . The event which is organized by the Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association will showcase more than one hundred and fifty booths displaying products from local , international as well as new entrants to the industry.Leading industry representatives from Hong Kong , Thailand, Myanmar, Singapore and an important business delegation from Egypt will also be present at ‘Facets Sri Lanka 2008’.

We are making a conscious effort this year to give an opportunity for new entrants in the small and medium scale business in the industry to get much needed exposure and experience at an international event of this caliber . Therefore arrangements have been made jointly with the National Gem and Jewellery Authority , Export Development Board and the Gem and Jewellery Research and Training Institute to include these groups at ‘ FACETS Sri Lanka 2008’, said Deshabandhu Macky Hashim, Chairman of the ‘FACETS Sri Lanka’ Organizing Committee.

Additional features of this years show are competitions such as Best Gem Cutter, Best Jewellery Designer and Best Booth. This is our way of appreciating the talents of local industry personnel as well as to encourage creativity and high standards in the gem and jewellery industry .

Deshabandu Macky Hashim said : “Facets Sri Lanka is Sri Lanka’s only international trade exhibition , and it is featured in the international callender of events in the Gem and Jewellery Industry Worldwide.

The show which has been running for 17 years since its inception in 1991, has attracted more than a million buyers , sellers and visitors over the past 17 years .

At this years exhibition visitors can expect to view more than 50 gem varieties that are found in Sri Lankas rich gem soils. Some of these are Sapphires, Rubies, Alexandrites, Cat’s Eyes , Padparadsha, Amethyst , Topaz, Zircons, Tourmalines, Garnets, Moonstones . The exhibition will also showcase some of her best gem cutting and designer talent.

A walk along the isles of the two exhibition halls will prove to be a truly unforgettable experience . In Hall ‘A’ buyers could discover a glittering array of the most beautiful and colourful gemstones , and Hall ‘B’ will exhibit jewellery where visitors will be dazzled by exquisite craftsmanship and stunning designs . The exhibition is also open to the public and discerning buyers will find this an ideal opportunity to source their bridal jewellery , rare pieces of fine designs and to add to their collections of fine gems , conviently under one roof.
