Sri Lanka the Sapphire Capital of the World sparkles at the Jewellery Shanghai Show 10 – 13 May 2013

A record number of exhibitors and visitors at the Jewellery Shanghai Show 2013 held from 10- 13 May 2013, at the Shanghai World Exhibition & Convention Center, propelled the event to unprecedented success with both exhibitors and buyers reporting an increase in confirmed orders during the four day Fair.

 

The Shanghai Fair is the biggest exhibition in an international jewellery bonanza in eastern China. Encouraging results were recorded at the 2013 edition of the Fair, with 75,000 buyers from 48 countries and regions attending, while domestic buyers came from 24 provinces, autonomous regions and municipalities. The 2013 edition was the largest in the Show’s history and set records in terms of visitors, exhibitors and exhibition space. Continuing last year’s success, the this year edition attracted over 2,000 exhibitors from the USA, Italy, China, Hong Kong, Thailand, Taiwan, Turkey including Sri Lanka to feature their exclusive products.

 

A vast variety of magnificent jewellery products of excellent craftsmanship showcased at the four-day event, included glistening gold jewellery, fashionable platinum and silver jewellery, prestigious pearl, diamond, Jade and gemset jewellery, fine diamonds and fine quality gems. Packaging and display materials and related products and services were also displayed, making it a highly professional sourcing platform for the jewellery industry.

 

The “Sri Lanka Pavilion” at ‘Jewellery Shanghai Show 2013’ was organized by the National Gem & Jewellery Authority (NGJA) with the collaboration of Sri Lanka Gem and Jewellery Association (SLGJA) and with the assistance of Sri Lanka Embassy in Beijing for the fifth consecutive year. The “National Pavilion” which displayed a glittering array of Gems and Jewellery from Sri Lanka presented by thirty members of the Trade, attracted buyers from China and other leading consuming countries. The members of the “National Pavilion” were successful in securing orders for gems and fine quality jewellery and establishing its position as the leading producer of fine quality Blue Sapphires to the global market. In addition to “NGJA” official, Mr. Juzar Adamaly, Chairman – Facets Sri Lanka 2013 participated in the National Pavilion, promoting ‘FACETS Sri Lanka’ – the Sri Lanka International Gem & Jewellery Show and important buyers to the fair accepted the invitation extended to visit “Facets Sri Lanka 2013” in September 2013.

 

Minister of Land and Environment Resources, Mr. Fenming Sun – Secretary General to the Gem and Jewellery Traders Association of China (GAC), H.E. Ranjith Uyangoda – Ambassador for Sri Lanka Embassy in Beijing, Mrs. Hasanthi Dissanayake, Consul General of Sri Lanka Consulate in Shanghai, Mr. Janaka Udaya Kumara Director General of NGJA and Mrs. Shirani Ariyaratne Commercial Counsellor of Sri Lanka Embassy in Beijing joined to ceremonial opening of the Sri Lanka Pavilion and inspired the participants, and congratulated ‘NGJA” & “SLGJA” for continuing with the ‘National Pavilion’ concept. Export of Jewellery from Sri Lanka to China has recorded a increase in 2012 in comparison with the corresponding figure in 2011. However, National Gem and Jewellery Authority have identified the market requirements and wish to create a strong platform for fine quality coloured gems and gem studded Jewellery in China.
