Christie’s New York Live Magnificent Jewels Sale to be held on Tuesday, June 8, 2021, will no doubt be be a memorable event, led by a collection of impressive diamonds, and signed jewels comprising an elegant selection of Graff Jewels as well as a collection of signed jewelry by renowned jewelry houses such as Buccellati, Bulgari, Carnet, Cartier, Carvin, French, Janesich, Marchak, Patek Philippe, Sterle, Tiffany & Co., Van Cleef & Arpels, Verdura, David Webb and Harry Winston. The sale also includes an important West Coast Collection, featuring an impressive collection of Joel Arthur Rosenthal’s (JAR) lewelry.

Top lot of the impressive diamond collection, is a sensational unmounted colored diamond, christened “The Dancing Sun,” with a pre-sale estimate of USD 3.5 – 5.5 million, the largest polished diamond ever mined in North America. The 204.36-carat, fancy intense yellow, cushion modified brilliant-cut, VVS2-claritiy diamiond, was cut from a 552.74-carat rough diamond, the largest ever rough diamond mined in North America, unearthed from the Diavik Mine in Canada in October 2018, which also produced six other satellite diamonds, ranging from 1.06 to 14.53 carats.

The Diavik Diamond Mine located in Canada’s Northwest Territories, only about 135 miles south of the Arctic Circle, looks like an out of the World almost mythical mine in aerial view. This mine, that opened in 2003 is Canada’s seconf diamond mine, after the Ekati Diamond Mine, which opened in 1998. The previous record for the largest known gem-quality rough ever mined in North America, was held by the 187.66-carat “Foxfire Rough” also from Diavik Diamond Mine, unearthed in 2015, This rough was cui into several diamonds, of which a pair of pear-shaped diamonds weighing 37.87 and 36.80 carats was sold at Christie’s New York in December 2018 for USD 1.5 million.

Another top diamond lot of the sale is Lot 135 – THE CHRYSLER DIAMOND – A MAGNIFICENT DIAMOND PENDANT NECKLACE – with a pre-sale estimate of USD 3.5 to 4.5 million. The Chrysler Diamond, once owned by Thelma Chrysler, daughter of Walter Chrysler, the Railroad and Automative Executive and founder of the Chrysler Corporation, is now incorporated as a pendant to a diamond necklace of length 45.7 cm (18 ins.). The neckchain of this platinum necklace is set with 43 pear brilliant-cut, D-color diamonds, of Internally Flawless to VS2 clarity, varying in weight from 0.50 to 1.69 carats. The Chrysler Diamond is now a 54.03-carat, pear brilliant-cut, D-color, Internally Flawless diamond suspended as a pendant to the necklace.

Another significant diamond lot is Lor 102, a “Toi et Moi” (You & Me) diamond ring titled, THE FLAWLESS MATCH, A SUPERB COLORED DIAMOND AND DIAMOND RING, with a pre-sale estimate of USD 2.5 to 3.5 million. The US ring size 6, platinum ring is set with a fancy vivid-blue, pear mixed-cut, Internally Flawless, 2.52-carat diamond and a matching D-color, pear brilliant-cut, Internally Flawless, 2.43-carat diamond, each .subtended by a tapered baguette-cut diamond.

Two JAR Lots, Lots 153 and 154 are next most valued lots of the sale. Lot 153- JAR NATURAL PEARL AND DIAMOND EARRINGS – with a pre-sale estimate of USD 700,000 to 1,000,000, is the fourth most valued lot of the sale. The pendant earrings made of silver and 18k rose gold, with dimensiions of 7.5 x 5.3 cm, has a fixed kite-shaped upper part set with a kite-shaped diamond and a suspended movable lower part, with a decorative motif, with four segements, the borders of each segement set with round brilliant-cut diamonds and a drop-shaped pearl suspended in the middle. The eight drop shaped pear are all natural salt water pearls, as certified by SSEF, 2021, report no. 116952.

JAR DIAMOND ‘BRANCH UNDER SNOW’ BANGLE BRACELET

Lot 154 – JAR DIAMOND ‘BRANCH UNDER SNOW’ BANGLE BRACELET – is the fifth most valued lot of the sale with an estimate of USD 400,000 to 600,000. The silver and platinum bangle of inner diameter 5,7 cm and inner circumference of 14.6 cm is set with briolette and round diamonds.

Lot 49 titled GRAFF DIAMOND RING with an estimate of USD 300,000 to 500,000 is the sixth most valued lot of the sale, Ring size 6 ½, 18k white gold ring, signed Graff and numbered, is claw-set with a 10.13-carat, square emerald-cut, I-color, VVS2 clarity diamond, with excellent polish and symmetry, as centrepiece, surroiunded by rectangular and trapezoid baguette-cut diamonds on the gallery rail of the ring, and more baguette-ciut and round brilliant-cut diamonds on the sides of the shoulders and the shank of the ring,

The next most valued lot is also a diamond lot, bearing Lot No. – 80 and titled COLORED DIAMOND AND DIAMOND RING, with a pre-sale estimate of USD 300,000 to 400,000. Ring size 6, platinium and 18k rose gold ring is bezel-set with a 10.18-carat, fancy intense yellow-green, pear modified brilliant-cut, SI-1 clarity diamond, surrounded by two rows of claw-set round brilliant-cut colorless diamonds on the gallery rail of the ring, as well as several triads of a center round brillant-cut and two smaller rouind cut diamonds mounted on the under surface of the gallery of the ring.

HARRY WINSTON DIAMOND RING – bearing Lot No.107, with a pre-sale estimate of USD 250,000 to 350,000 is the next most valued lot of the sale. Ring size 6¼, platinum ring, signed Winston, is double-claw set with a 11.93-carat, rectangular emerald-cut, G-color, VS-2 clarity diamond, flanked by a tapered baguette-cut diamond on the shoulders of the ring.

A RARE COLORED DIAMOND RING – with an estimate of USD 250,000 to 350,000 and bearing Lot No. 109 is the next lot falling within the first ten lots. Ring size 5½ platinum ring, is claw set with a 4.10-carat, natural fancy greyish-bluie, square emerald-cut, SI-2 clarity diamond, flanked on either side by a baguette-cut colorless diamond on the shoiulders of the ring.

A DIAMOND RING – bearing Lot No, 115, with an estimate of USD 250,000 to 350,000 is the 10th most-valued lot of the sale. Ring size 6 ½, platinum ring claw-set with a 19.25-carat, pear-shaped brilliant-cut, H-color, SI-2 clarity diamond is flanked on either side by a tapered baguette-cut diamond on the shoulders of the ring.

Lot 120 is a colored gemstone lot titled AN IMPRESSIVE SAPPHIRE RING, with an pre-sale estimate of USD 220,000 to 300,000. Ring size 6 ½, platinum ring is claw-set with a 23.19-carat, cushion mixed-cut Burmese blue sapphire, with no evidence of heat or clarity enhancement, according to AGL and GGL reports accompanying the Lot.

Lot 116 – EMERALD AND DIAMOND RING – is another colored gemstone lot, with a pre-sale estimate of USD 150,000 to 250,000. Ring size 6, platinum and 18k yellow gold ring is claw-set with a 8.52-carat, rectangular emerald-cut emerald, flanked on either side by a shield-shaped colorless diamond on the shoulders of the ring. AGL and SSEF reports accompanying the Lot confirm that the emerald is of Colombian origin with no evidence of clarity enhancement.

Lot 149 – JAR COLORED SAPPHIRE, RUBY AND DIAMOND ‘MATHILDE’ RING – with an estimate of USD 120,000 to 220,000 is another significant colored gemstone lot of the sale. Ring size 6 ¼, silver and platinum ring is special claw-set all round with a oval mixed-cut, deep purple-pink sapphire, the same claws holding on one side the 21 round brilliant-cut white diamonds surrounding the central large pink sapphire, with additional claws on the periphery holding the diamonds in place,

The undersurface of the gallery of the ring is divided into three segments by rows of white brilliant-cut diamonds, the segments themselves filled and claw-set with round-cut rubies, the visible segment in the image above occupied by 15 rubies.

Lot 13 is another significant lot titled LORRAINE SCHWARTZ PARAIBA TOURMALINE AND TOURMALINE RING, with an estimate of USD 100,000 to 150,000. Ring size 6, 18k blackened gold ring is claw-set with a 4,22-carat marquise modified brilliant-cut, paraiba tourmaline, with several roiund-cut green tourmalines set on the upper hoop of the ring. AGL report accompanying the lot states the Paraiba tourmaline is of Brazilian origin with possible low temperature heatiing but no clarity enhancement.

Lot 150 – JAR TOURMALINE AND DIAMOND RING – with an estimate of – USD 100,000 to 150,000 is another significant lot of the sale. Ring size  3 ¼, platinum and blackened 18k gold ring is claw-set all round with an oval-shaped blue-green tourmaline as centrepiece, surrounded by a claw-set row of colorless round brilliant-cut diamonds and additiional rows of claw-set diamonds on the shoiulders of the ring.
