Bonhams London, Knightsbridge October Jewelry Sale is due to be held at their Knightsbridge saleroom in the fashionable Knightsbridge area on Montpelier Street, on Wednesday, 17th October, 2018, starting at 11.00 BST. The auction will be preceded by viewing of the lots at the same venue, on Thursday, 11th October, 2018 and then from Sunday, 14th October, 2018 to Wednesday, 17th October, 2018, viewing times being 9.30 to 16.30 BST on Thursday, 11th October, 2018; 11.00 to 15.00 BST on Sunday, 14th October, 2018; 9.30 to 16.30 BST on Monday, 15th and Tuesday, 16th October, 2018 and 9.00 to 10.00 BST on Wednesday, 17th October, 2018.

A total of 274 lots will be on offer at the sale, including a variety of jewels, such as bracelets, brooches, earrings, necklaces, rings etc. set with colored and colorless diamonds, colored gemstones such as emeralds, rubies, sapphires etc. and organic gemstones such as natural and cultured pearls, corals, mother-of-pearl and seed pearls.

 

COLORLESS DIAMOND LOTS

One of the top highlights among Colorless Diamond Lots is LOT 260 – A DIAMOND NECKLACE – with an estimate of £ 15,000 – 20,000 (€ 17,000 – 22,000). The 39.4 cm (15.5 ins) choker length articulated necklace suspends an 8.8 cm long openwork pear-shaped drop pendant with floral and foliate decoration, set with old brilliant-cut diamonds, from a bow-shaped surmount also set with brilliant-cut diamonds, The lower half of the necklace from which the pendant is suspended, is composed of a wavy floral motif, with a larger diamond rosette placed at the bottom of each wave and a smaller diamond rosette on either side of it. The waves are connected by a link also set with an old brilliant-cut diamond. There are two such waves on either side of the pendant, and at the points where the lower half ends a single smaller and larger rosette are placed. The rear half of the necklace are made of only smaller diamond rosettes, five rosettes on either side of the rear clasp, connected by links set with a single old brilliant-cut diamond. Total weight of old brilliant-cut diamonds approximately 17.60 carats.

The vertices of the square wire frame are placed on the outer circle of pave-set and millegrain-set rose-cut diamonds. The spaces between the sides of the square and outer circle are millegrain set with three old brilliant-cut diamonds on an arc of wire. Weight of central diamond approximately 1.75 carats. The yellow-gold pendant necklace of floral design has a length of 44.0 cm and is set with floral rosettes linked by oval garnets. Each rosette centering around a small circular-cut garnet has five petals set with pear-shaped garnets, all garnets are set in foiled closed-back yellow gold settings.

The detachable pendant of length 5.0 cm is of floral design with a central motif of four smaller pear-shaped garnets alternating with four small circular-cut garnets, surrounded by four five-petal rosettes placed along the vertical and horizontal axis, alternating with a single elongated pear-shaped garnet. The overall shape of the pendant is a tilted square and the vertices of this tilted square are set with a single circular-cut garnet. All garnets are set in foiled closed-back yellow gold settings.

Each of the pair of pendant earrings 5.5 cm long is of floral and foliate design, set with five-petal rosettes at the upper and lower end of the pendants, with two foliate motifs set in between, composed of two leaves set with pear-shaped garnets arising from the stem represented by a single circular-cut garnet. The three-strand coral necklace with inner strand of length 40.5 cm (15.9 ins.) equivalent to a choker, has a front lower half consisting of three graduating clusters of circular coral cabochons (Corallium rubrum) mounted on white gold, from which several fringes of Corallium rubrum drops arise. A smaller cluster of coral cabochons is also placed on the clasp behind.

The Brooch of length 7.2 cm has a matching cluster of circular coral cabochons mounted on white gold with five drop-shaped coral fringes arising from the lower side, with a central longer drop and two shorter drops of matching lengths on either side.

Gem and Pearl Laboratory report number 15908, dated 26th June 2018 states that an extensive sample of the pearls tested were found to be natural, saltwater pearls.

The necklace of length 59.3 cm is a multi-strand seed pearl necklace suspending a detachable cartouche-shaped pendant, of length 15 cm, bezel-set with an oval emerald cabochon weighing 28.36 carats, the surround set with a rectangular calibré-cut onyx on either side, brilliant-cut diamonds on the border of the openwork motif and the loop that suspends the pendant from the necklace, and two vertical rows of treated black diamonds along the median line of the pendant, terminating in a seed pearl tassel hanging from a diamond-set cap, each strand of the tassel ending in a black diamond. The clasp behind is set with a brilliant-cut diamond cross, Total weight of colorless diamonds approximately 0.45 carat.

Gübelin Gem Lab Report number 0803715, dated 13th March 2008, states that the emerald is natural, of Colombian origin, with indications of minor clarity enhancement, accepted in the trade.

The heart-shaped yellow gold pendant of length 4.3 cm, with maker’s mark CG, is set with a heart-shaped rock crystal cabochon as centerpiece, highlighted by turquoise blue and white enamel borders, with blue dot detail, and further accented by an outer surround of seed pearls, with a glazed compartment to the reverse.

The multi-strand seed pearl necklace with the inner shortest strand having a length of 32.5 cm and with single-cut diamond spacers placed at regular intervals, is set at the front with an openwork panel, consisting of a circle, hexagon, a zone of semi-circles and triangles, followed by two concentric circles with semi-circles, triangles and other shapes in-between, with a row six seed pearls set on the inner circle alternating with collet-set single-cut diamonds and a rose-cut diamond claw-set inside the millegrain bordered triangle just outside the collets. The circular space within the inner circle is occupied by a floral motif, consisting of a millegrain set old brilliant-cut diamond as the stigma, and six marquise-shaped petals surrounding it with three rose-cut diamonds claw-set inside each petal with millegrain borders. Total weight of diamonds approximately 0.50 carats.
