GJEPC GRANTED FULL MEMBER STATUS AS WFDB’S FIRST NON-BOURSE MEMBER

The World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) has announced the granting of full member status to the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council (GJEPC) of India, which incidentally is the first non-bourse member of the global diamond organization. This development is a sequel to the recent AGM of the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council, at which changes to its code of ethics, conforming to that of the WFDB were approved, clearing the way for full member status of the renowned organization. This also included the creation of a Trade Disciplinary Committee (TDC) with the participation of the Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) and the Mumbai Diamond Merchants’ Association (MDMA).

Welcoming the GJEPC as its first non-bourse member, Ernie Blom, President of WFDB said, “I am delighted that the GJEPC has become our first non-bourse member. India is a very important part of the global diamond industry, and the Gem and Jewellery Export Promotion Council is a major force in promoting the country’s trade.”

The President of WFDB further said that the WFDB is also looking forward to welcoming other industry players into the organisation. He said, “such bodies will provide us with important input regarding the diamond and jewellery trade from their perspective, and they will be able to observe our operations from within, at our meetings. Our industry is undergoing continuous change, and that makes it vital for bodies from across the diamond pipeline to join the WFDB as it leads our trade forward.”

The biennial President’s Meeting of the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB) and the International Diamond Manufacturers Association (IDMA), organized by WFDB and IDMA in association with GJEPC, is scheduled to take place in Mumbai from February 5-8, 2017.
