GIA’s DiamondCheck Machine Installed at Dubai Diamond Exchange

The GIA working in association with the World Federation of Diamond Bourses (WFDB), committed to enforcing its stand of “zero tolerance” in the non-disclosure of synthetic diamonds, offered its latest invention by its research scientists, the user-friendly DiamondCheck machine to all member bourses of the WFDB, free-of-charge, to enable them tackle this menacing problem and thereby ensure the maintenance of the high degree of consumer confidence that is critical to the industry worldwide. The device, which will be able to detect whether a given specimen is a natural untreated diamond, non-diamond or whether further testing would be needed to determine treatment or synthesis, was first installed at the New York Diamond Dealers Club on January 30, 2014, followed by the Israeli Diamond Exchange, the Diamond Dealers Club of South Africa and Bharat Diamond Bourse (BDB) of Mumbai, India.

The Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE), a subsidiary of Dubai Multi Commodities Center (DMCC) is the latest recipient of this new technology from the GIA , that has 100% potential to identify and refer all colorless synthetic diamonds in the D to N range for further testing, and thereby enhance the confidence of all diamond transactions taking place at the DDE. The DiamondCheck machine was handed over to Ahmed Bin Sulayem, the executive chairman of DMCC, by GIA’s president and CEO, Susan Jacques, its executive vice president and chief laboratory and research officer, Tom Moses, and its managing director of India and the Middle East, Nirupa Bhatt. Also present at the occasion were Peter Meeus, the chairman of the Dubai Diamond Exchange (DDE), Gautam Sashittal, the CEO of DMCC, and members of the DDE board.

Addressing the gathering after formally receiving the machine, Ahmed Bin Sulayem, the executive chairman of DMCC, said, “DMCC continues to provide our member companies and market participants with the appropriate products and services they require to succeed. We always look at ways of enhancing global responsible supply chain management and GIA’s new synthetic diamond detector will add further transparency and clarity to enable the industry to trade with confidence through the Emirate. We welcome GIA’s latest equipment and technology to the Dubai Diamond Exchange here at Almas Tower, the world’s tallest diamond tower.”
